Wedding Photos... Some anyway!

Finally uploaded some photos. Using different approach to galleries (the inbuilt one with this blog software) and it does not allow me to order the photos as I would like, so not sure how long this will last, but anyway... better late (and in random order) than never, right?

  • Official Wedding Album - Photos by the idiot from Studio Milano. These will be put into an album that we was part of our package.
  • Wedding Scrapbook - Photos that we put into two little albums for the family in Ireland, especially for the grandparents who did not make the wedding itself.

  • Family Games...

As part of the wedding week, I managed to get my uncle Albert out to play golf. My other uncle (Neal) also joined us, but only to walk the course, not to try and hack the ground up like we were.

I really thought I was being played when Albert hit a birdie on the first hole, but as I got stronger later in the round (back finally loosened up), he started to fade... with me eventually beating him!

And yes... I DID hit a BIRDIE... only one, but better than none!

    Life back to normal?

Nearly three weeks on, the house is getting back to normal, as is our lives. More posts on the wedding to come, just need to get my head around how to post all of that.

I have also been travelling most of this week, so have been unable to do anything on the website front, including filtering through and starting to upload the wedding photos (which I currently have 2,262 of). Several people still have photos they want to get to me, but overall we have some great shots, and most of them not from the official photographer (that will be covered in a different post).

Several posts will be coming over the next couple of days, if I get my shit into order... some wedding, some not.

Oh, and I do plan to get the website set-up so that Angel can post and so that you will be able to see her posts as being separate from mine, and yes, that will probably require an overall redesign of how the site will look... or at least the content on it.

    Weddling Blog updates.

So I have finally managed to get some content online. Mainly thanks to Angel who wrote most of it. Still lot more to come, but there is a sampler, including some suggested hotels in the area. We will be looking at getting a group rate for one or two of them, so if you want to hold off on booking for a week or so then great!

    Wedding Blog...

NO... I have not updated it yet, but I have a lot of material to add (thanks to Angel). I will be getting to that hopefully later today. Reason for the post is we are getting ready to go to the caterer to talk food, drink and various other stuff we need to talk about!

    Idiots

    On boikes and in restaurants..

    Bicycles
So we were driving along Bissonnet, minding our own business, when we go to drive through a green light. Out of nowhere a cyclist comes bombing down Greenbriar, and he was not looking like he would stop. I honk the horn at him and he finally looks up, slams on the brakes and then proceeds to give a really dirty look the whole time I am driving through the intersection then down the road... like I was in the wrong for driving through a green light! Shame on me!

    Restaurants
We went out to dinner last night for a friend of my dad's 50th birthday. Was a pleasant evening except for the annoying, recently retired, teacher who would not stop trying to lecture us on why we should learn new languages and how we should go about doing so. Well that, and the woman who had just recently gotten married and decided that although she never thought she would be a Bridezilla, she did... and she wanted to convince Angel that the same would happen to her. Angel was very clear and concise in why she would not be, but did admit it was possible she could have a nervous breakdown over the whole thing, but the woman would not shut up. Angel even bet her that she would not (a whopping 5K bet) but the woman only wanted to give unsolicited advice, not put her money where her mouth was. That unfortunately (as well as the so so food) really put a dampener on the evening!

    We just might...

    Have a location!!!!

Got the high level costs back from the caterers, and when all is totalled up, we are looking at the Rockerfeller Hall for our weeeddding on the 11th November.

Now that we have that sorted, next steps is getting hotel room packages for y'all, and ummm... oh yeah, setting and agreeing the menu (beakyfust anyone?!?), umm and a bunch of other stuff (oh yeah, invites, duh!)

Now we can start getting the wedding blog updates rolling!

    Kirsten and Arthur get hitched!

Yup, two good friends finally tied the knot yesterday somewhere close to the Mexican border, or at least that is how it felt driving from inside the loop!

Was a nice and simple ceremony and relaxed reception. Very civilised all around (or nearly all around!). I was drafted in at the last minute (or last week) to be an usher, and so had to stand out in the hot muggy weather directing traffic (both automotive and pedestrian). Ceremony and most of the reception was outside, and we were all very thankful for the breeze and for the fact that the rain held off!

Funny thing is now that Angel and I are getting married, we did look at different aspects of the wedding saying things like 'we won't do that' or 'huh, that's a good idea'... funny how your perception of these things change when you are planning one yourself... or I imagine... if you have already done so in the past!

    What a weekend...

Friday night we were at the Relay for Life which is a cancer awareness relay walk. Basically try and keep someone on the track from your team at all times. Problem is that there was no visibility of the whole track and so you could not see how many people are on the track... and no competitive reason to keep running. End result is that although there were a lot of people at the start (19:00) but by midnight over half the people were gone, including more than half our team. I started to fade around 1am, and I went to the car and had a nap, but Angel and her mum stayed up all night. By 3am, we were down to 3 or 4 people in the team, and more than half of the other teams had already packed up and left. Relay was due to finish at 7am, but around 6am someone stepped onto the stage and basically said 'thanks for coming, if anyone turns up they can keep on walking, but BYE BYE!'.

One interesting thing during the night. They had a 'Mister Relay' competition and the woman was calling for contestants to come up on stage. At one point I am sure I heard her say 'Would all Mystery Lay contestants come up onstage?'. I was shocked... they had cub scouts there and all!

We packed up around 7am, and got home around 8am. Sleep and then next step of the weekend...

    Went to see 2 more wedding locations and have now settled on 3 potential locations... details to follow. We should have the quotes for all locations by end of next week but the three we are looking at are;

  • Rockerfeller Hall (http://www.rockefellerhall.com/home.html)
  • The Parador (http://www.paradorhouston.com/main.html)
  • The Allen Center

After that, back home, get ready and then... Angel heads out to Kirsten's Hen night and I went out with Arthur (the Groom to be) to play poker. Back home at 1:30, and then back out at 3:30 to pick Angel up. Then... Sleep.

Sunday I played golf at Memorial... although not well (hit a 100). Game was really up and down, but down overall! After that straight down the road to a open Capoeira Roda. Dinner at parents, back home to listen to poor Wazz bitch about being abandoned all weekend. Stuff done at home, and then sleep.

  • The Search is Over...

No, this is not another post about the bed... but it would seem that Miss Angelique has found her wedding gown. After marathon shopping trips and kidnapping my mum for second opinions, it seems that the gown has been purchased and is now being altered. Have I seen it? Nope. Have I seen a lot of the gowns that failed to make the grade? Yup. Will Angel be posting a list of the gowns that did not make it on the wedding blog? Ya would have to ask her!

All this makes me feel like I am falling well behind on figuring out what I will be wearing. I have an idea, but still need to go try gowns, uh I mean tuxedos & suits, on. That will be a job for a rainy weekend day sometime soon I expect!
