Not a full Round…

But still fun… We played a round on the Highlands course at Wildcat, where I managed to hit a 77, but we only played 15 holes!!! All in all it was not awesome… in fact was pretty bad at times, but it could have been a lot worse. The thing about the course was it was really windy on Sunday morning and the greens were the fastest and toughest I have ever seen that course play. Made it a LOT harder to play.

PS… Writing this from my new HP laptop… a shiny new tablet PC… been eyeing one since I first saw one back over 5 years ago, and only now managed to wrangle one out of the company I am working for… which just happens to be HP!

Fragging Wireless Technology…

FRAGGING SUCKS!

The network has slowly died over the past week. I thought I had resolved the issue, but NOOOOOOO, it just got worse. Tonight it got to the point where Mum Mum could not get online upstairs using the wireless network. I have just wasted, and I do say wasted, nearly 3 hours of my time trying to fix it. I am not much closer than I was. I am now back where I can connect both physically and wirelessly to the Internet from my machines in the office, but I have not even tried to get the extender working. That is the job for another day, preferably when I have a bottle of wine beside me to drink and then to beat the network to death with.

I wish I could blame Apple (running purely Apple network infrastructure) but I cannot as no wireless technology that I have bought and installed has worked reliably across all three floors of the house. Just shitty technology if you ask me… not that I cannot install it! 🙂 Hell, it was running realy smoothly for 6 months + and then BLAM… the slow death of the wireless….. ARGGGGHHHH… anyway, back to the sorting I hoped to start earlier… and seeing that it is after midnight, it could be a late night for me.

Happy Birthday Dominika

Just wanted to wish a good friend a happy birthday. Just defended her thesis at Oxford, here is a photo of the last time we managed to meet… a quick catch-up while we were both waiting for flights… her back to England, and me up to Colorado for training.

I GLOW!!!

Under black light that is!

Last weekend we went to a friend’s pre-Halloween party, and costumes were optional… so we went low key, me in my Capoeira abada and Mum Mum as a 1960’s hippy type writer thing. Anyway, While we were sitting in the living room eating (food was awesome) looking at photos of the Wazz cat, It was quickly obvious that I was a large source of ambient light in the room cause I was wearing all white (clean, phew!) in a room illuminated mainly by black light… This is the result!

Although not perfect…

… it is a damn sight better than my iPaq… yes, I have a new phone. Old Dadawa is turning into iDadawa after my purchase of the iPhone this weekend. I have only had it for 24 hours and yet I still think it is a heck of a lot better than the iPaq I have had for close to 2 years!

Not that I am not a loyal employee, but until they can make a product that stands close to the capabilities of Apple, then I will buy the product that fits my needs best.

Sure, it is far from perfect, but the interface is soo much better than the OS on the iPaq or on the Palm platform. My biggest gripes are that my blog does not seem to allow me to post a new entry from the phone (just tried that), but I can just build a custom page for the iPhone entry creation, and that there is no search functionality on the contacts list. Oh and that the system is locked and you cannot install additional applications without unlocking the phone, which could cause it to turn into a brick. The last issue is really not a big deal for me anymore. I don’t want to screw around with it too much. It does what I need… I can make and receive calls. I can pick up and send mail. I can use the interweb and can listen to music and even watch videos, oh and I can check for directions using Google Maps. No GPS, but oh well!

I am a happy Apple customer… for the time being… now if I could only have gotten it without sticking with AT&T for another couple years!

Ups and Downs…

Played golf last weekend (this past Saturday) as well as the weekend before. Why not post my scores from the previous round you may ask? Well… we only played nine holes as we were both playing extremely poorly. I was a whopping 19 over par through the first 6 holes… that is how bad I was playing. I did manage the last three holes in even par (bogey, birdie, par), but that could not make up for the previous holes so called it quits.

This past weekend we played out in East San Antonio, or at least that is how it felt. Played at Cinco Ranch, and after an up and down front nine, the back nine was a lot more consistent. Maybe not great, but consistent!

Ma boots…

… were an inspiration for a women at a recital/concert we were at on Saturday night. She ‘LOVED’ the boots I was wearing (same ones I will be wearing at the wedding… http://wedding.wolfdream.com/index.cfm/2007/9/13/Very-Productive-Day). Seems her kid wants a pair of boots and mine suddenly inspired her to try and buy some at somewhere other than a River Oaks boutique, which will never have any real selection. So we told her where to go to try and find some. She then sat beside us for the second half of the performance where we saw her daughter perform as part of a piece done by the Houston Ballet in concert with members of the Houston Opera and the resident Art Director/pianist extraordinare (who really was good, but not that good a soloist).
